|

I thought a great way to start 2006 would be to fully introduce myself to the users of the East Texas Gig Guide. I'm hopeful that you will introduce yourselves too, and this forum and the East Texas music community will be the better for it.
So, I will begin.
My name is Luke Weese, I'm somewhere around 28 years old, and I live in Longview Texas. I'm married and have an 8 year old daughter. I spend most of my time in Big Sandy working as a software developer, and my free time consists of my family, web development, playing bass or acoustic guitar, writing, and sleeping whenever time allows. I also enjoy the Playstation 2, and finding really good deals on stuff I may or may not need (most likely not).
As far as free time goes, I think I spent most of 2005 working on this site ( I don't get a lot of free time :-/ ). There's still a good bit of work to do (like an events calendar), but what this site really needs to succeed is, well, you! So tell us who you are! What you do! Or what you are and who you do, whatever! Just say Hi!
And have a great year, East Texas! _________________ EastTexasGigGuide.com

Hey Luke...nice to "meet" you! Thank you for all of the hard work and dedication to the site! Since you said something about introducing ourselves...I am Teresa Ragland. I live in Alto, teach junior high choir & theatre in Nacogdoches, and sing in a the band Mad Hatter, which is not too far out of Tyler. Yeah, I spend alot of time driving! I am married and have a 7 yr old daughter. For Valentine's, hubby is getting me sound equipment-that's love for ya! lolol I also teach piano and voice on the side. While I grew up singing gospel music, there has always been a rocker inside that has stuggled to get out. SO now I am letting her out and letting her sing! I hope that others will post a little about themselves as well...kind of nice to learn a little about the names you see in postings! |

Thanks for the introduction Teresa! Glad to hear you're getting to rock out these days; can't wait to hear some tunes. I have to wonder what your students think of your rock-and-roll aspirations... I'm thinking you're probably just the coolest teacher EVAR!
Anyway thanks again for posting and good luck with everything! Keep rockin' and keep us posted! |

Hello all, My name is Robert Sutton (Gizmo), I live in Tyler. I'm currently working in construction. I'm 18. I'm in a new band named 13th Virus. I sing and play bass (for now). There's really nothin special about me. I'm just an ordinary kid, heavy into music. I'm actually fixing to go to college for music and business so that if my band never makes it anywhere I can opem up my own music store. I already make my own bass's and my guitars for my guitarist. My pride and joy is my double-neck bass I made that's body is shaped like a tiger. _________________ Music is a form af art unseen. |

Well after seeing that my post has had over 100 views & no responces, I figure this might help 'cause it sure as hell can't hurt. My name is J. R. Martin. I'm 49 with the big 50 just around the corner. I've been drumming & singing probably longer than some of the users of this site have been alive. But there ain't no grass on this stone. Anyone that knows me will tell you that I have the Peter Pan Syndrome. I ABSOLUTELY POSSITIVELY REFUSE TO GET OLD. Oh, I will age as the alternative is to become worm food. But I will never let my self get old in my heart & mind. I firmly believe that musicians don't quit playing 'cause they get old, they get old 'cause they quit playing! So what do I do to keep me young? Well First & Foremost, I have to give credit to my Wife who is always there for me. She is my worst crittic & my biggest fan! Love like that will keep you happy & young. We do everything together, including starting a sound company MARTIN SOUND that is now 1yr. old. We, as the name would imply, furnishes sound services for events, Karaoke & DJ services, & books talent for events. O.K. yeah, we are an events services company. But more than anything I am a drummer & vocalist, & like most would rather be behind my kit than eat. Well, truth is, in a perfect world I would eat & jam at the same time. So if you need a serious drummer or HAVE an over abundance of BLUE BELL ICE CREAM, I'm your man! _________________ All you have to do is remember the Golden Rule. Thanks for the intros, guys! Gizmo, best of luck with your music career... you're still young of course, but it seems like you know you're in the right business. And I have to see that bass, it sounds awesome! Post a pic if you have one.
And Druminator, thanks so much for the entertaining read. I hope you find someone to jam with soon, but even if not, I do have a need for mass quantities of Blue Bell Ice Cream... although I have no idea what that was about...
Keep rockin East Texas! |

Hi, my name is SmittyG and I'm a bass addict.
[Hello, SmittyG.]
I play bass in the blues band Deacon Dark, the rock band Sonic Rust, and about every jam I can fit into my schedule. I've really worked hard to get these bass playing impulses under control, but someone asks me to play and I normally say 'yep' before I've even thought it through. It's become so bad that I've missed anniversaries and birthdays to play. One day, my wife walked into the room naked and holding one of my basses; she told me to choose right then. I've actually become quite used to the couch at this point.
And, btw, I also have really crappy eyesight. _________________ SmittyG, Bassist

Welcome SmittyG! I feel that ETGG can only be improved by your membership here. For those that don't know, Smitty is a highly-respected member and moderator at TexarkanaRocks.com and holds in his cranium a wealth of knowledge about music, the industry, and life in general.
He also hates the color scheme on this site. To show I'm responsive to member concerns, I'm working on a few new designs that registered users will be able to choose as their default theme when logged in, and we'll probably hold a vote for the new "big daddy" default theme. Ok, so I've been "working on them" for quite some time now... maybe I'll actually finish them. See Smitty, already improving things around here! |

Thanks guys. Snookas, no brownie points for the color remark, but you get double for the signature.

I live in NETX
My hereos behind the drums are my Dad, Buddy Rich, Ed Schaunesy, John Bonham, Greg Bisonette, Ringo Starr, Eddie Bayers, Neil Peart, and Tommy Lee
I grew up listening to Jazz, Big Band music as well as top 40, as I grew older (around 12) I started listening to Skynard, Molly Hatchet, Bad Company, Blackfoot, Areosmith, Kiss Motley, Metallica Van Halen, etc typical 80's Hair Band Stuff.
Southern Rock and Country really stuck with me for some reason that is what I enjoy playing the most
We are looking for a keyboard player, I put an ad in the classifieds
anyway that's all about me
Thanks for reading _________________ In ALL things, serve HIM

Welcome to the site Tim! Sure a wide range of influences there, many of my favorites... but I'm glad to hear Skynyrd wins out over the hair bands when it comes to gettin' down.
I hope you find a keyboardist here - I think at least a couple of bands have had good luck. Keep rockin'! |

Hi y'all!
I'm Chuck Thompson from Natchitoches, La. I am the drummer for Second 2 None a Natchitoches based band. We play mostly Classic Rock with some Country and some Blues mixed in. We had to go through a rebuilding stage, but we are back and better than ever!!! _________________ Drummer for Second 2 None |
